I have a six year old son, who was recently diagnosed with early onset bipolar disorder. It has been a long three years since then, but I finally received validation of my feelings and we are getting my son the help he has always needed. I cannot begin to tell you the pain and suffering our family has endured over the last couple of years.  Being his mother, I have always known that there was something “different” about him; I have often referred to him as my “spirited child,” but I knew it was more than just ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and I wasn't going to settle for that being his only problem. I am glad I found the right doctor and the right diagnosis. I know life with my son is really living “one day at a time,” because you never know what the day will bring. It has definitely made me a stronger person and I hope other parents educate themselves first, before accepting what doctors may tell them they are doing wrong. Following one’s motherly instinct may help to find the answers one needs to help their child.
