American RadioWorks Submission Guidelines
American RadioWorks welcomes your ideas, but we have a limited acquisition budget and regret that we are not able to pursue many worthy ideas.
In order for any project to be considered, it needs to meet the following criteria:
- Is it a topic of substantial significance? Will it have national appeal? Does it reflect an important, emerging trend? If it's a foreign story, tell us why American listeners would be interested.
- Is it documentary in approach? Will it take the listener inside the events, use a narrative storytelling approach or follow a subject over an extended time? What will be fresh or original about your treatment?
- Is it investigative? Does it reveal new information or shed new light on a subject?
- If it is historical, does it have rich audio to support the development of a multi-dimensional portrait of the period, theme and characters?
- If it's a personal story, does it connect with larger issues, trends or policies and is it journalism?
- The subject must be able to stay current during a broadcast window of several months
- Are there ways to enhance the storytelling on the Web? Visual components? Interactivity?
If your idea still sounds like something that would be a good fit for ARW, please email a one-page description and your professional bio to:

Some notes on our process:
If our editorial group expresses an interest in pursuing your idea, we'll ask you for a more detailed story treatment plus a budget and timeframe for completing the story. ARW staff can provide more detailed information on building a budget and estimating production timelines.
We prefer to get involved early in projects so we can have input during the reporting stage.
