It was October 27, 1915. Sir Ernest Shackleton and his 27 crew members
found themselves marooned 350 miles from land in subzero cold. Shackleton
was determined that no lives would be lost and set about rallying his own
spirits in order to lead the others.
Sir Ernest Shackleton was called "The Boss" by his crew. They knew the
saying "When disaster strikes, get down on your knees and pray for
Shackleton." This was certainly one of those times, and Shackleton rose to
the occasion. His commanding presence held the crew together.
