Morris Kallon
BACKGROUND:
Morris Kallon aka Bilai Karim of Bo,
Bo District, Republic of Sierra Leone.
Kallon served as a senior officer in
the RUF, Junta and AFRC/RUF forces as Deputy Area Commander, Battle Field
Inspector and RUF Battlefield Commander.
CHARGES*: Kallon
is charged with 17 counts of war crimes, including terrorizing civilians and collective
punishments, unlawful killings, crimes against humanity, sexual violence,
physical violence, use of child soldiers, abductions and forced labor, looting
and burning, and attacks on UNAMSIL personnel.
DETAILS:
Kallon was indicted March 7, 2003 for crimes against humanity and other war
crimes. Pled not guilty at his initial court appearance on March 17.
STATUS: Kallon is in custody at
the Special Court detention facility on Bonthe Island near Freetown.
