How good an idea is this for reducing or eliminating poverty?

The federal government has to actually start serving its constituents by enforcing its own immigration laws. Democrats pander to illegal immigrant voting blocks to get re-elected. Republicans sweep the enforcement issue under the rug so that businesses can continue to hire illegals ahead of American citizens and pay them slave wages.

The downward pressure on wages (and job availability for citizens) caused by unfettered illegal immigration may well be the single greatest contributor to poverty in the United States.
