The vast majority of folks we see come into our rural Wisconsin agency for assistance have little to no basic financial literacy skills. Many cannot even balance a checkbook. Cable TV and expensive cell plans have led many a family down the road of financial instability, especially when a family pays those bills prior to paying rent for the month. If the breadwinners in the family lose employment, the family generally does not have the common sense to cease or decrease cable or phone packages.
