Gate money for North Carolina:
Inmates receive their own personal property, any money in their accounts in cash, and their ID cards. If they don't have identification, they are issued a state ID. The state usually tries to arrange transfers before release dates so that prisoners are released close to home. When this is not possible, the state supplies a bus ticket home. In addition, parole officers may pick inmates up, if they are inclined.
